Workshop & Exhibition (2026)

Project lead & workshop facilitator · GSASA-funded

Listening, Making and Storytelling invited participants to spend time with stones through touch, attention and making. Following an initial material encounter, they took part in a guided exercise using How to Become a Stone Medium, before returning to open-ended making. Their works and material traces were later presented in Voices of Stone, an exhibition at the GSASA Assembly Building.

Participant Reflection

“Through Yuchen Liu’s stone workshop, I began to rethink the poetic and spiritual qualities of stone as a material. Through my own research into ritual and systems of belief, I started to see stone as an object filled with both strength and tenderness. During the workshop, I spent time holding and observing stones closely, feeling their weight, contours, and rough surfaces. I created a stone wind chime and another piece where I wrapped stones with thread. The sound produced by the stones colliding in the wind felt almost like a form of communication. This experience made me reflect on how stones, although materially ordinary, can become vessels for faith, memory, and emotional projection when people invest them with care and meaning.”
