Alzheimer’s Duality (2023)

Through my daily companionship with my grandmother, who suffers from Alzheimer’s, I came to see it as an “alien” invading the human brain, allowing patients’ consciousness to transcend conventional time—everything exists simultaneously within the present memory. This chaos of time breaks the shackles of linear thinking, retaining only the existence of inner time.
This shifting experience of time led me to imagine its possible thickness, where moments may run parallel, intersect and exist simultaneously. Such a perspective opens up different ways of understanding the past, present and future, and our place within them. For my grandmother, the "present" could hold the entire meaning of existence. Through Alzheimer’s Duality, I reflect on the possibility of non-linear time and the significance of embracing each moment as part of our experience of being in the world.

Moving Image

The moving image draws on symbolic imagery that echoes the visual elements of the monoprints. Fragmented sequences and shifting rhythms disrupt the linear flow of time, while inverted colours evoke altered perceptions of memory, time and consciousness.
